On safety Should any solid object or liquid fall into the cabinet, unplug the recorder and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further. This appliance is classified as a CLASS 1 LASER product. The CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT MARKING is located on the rear exterior. Precautions · This unit operates on 220 ­ 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Check that the unit's operating voltage is identical with your local power supply. · To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus. [. . . ] Use this function as follows: · While recording to the HDD: Play another title on the HDD. · While recording to a DVD: Play a previously recorded programme on the HDD by pressing HDD. · While recording to a DVD-RW (VR mode)*1: Play another title on the same DVD-RW (VR mode) disc. *2 *1 Simultaneous Rec and Play function does not work when you record: ­ on a 1x-speed DVD-RW. 2 Picture noise may appear depending upon the * condition of the recording, or when playing a title recorded in the HQ or HSP recording mode. Playing from the beginning of the programme you are recording (Chasing Playback) HDD -RWVR "Chasing Playback" allows you to view the recorded part of a programme while the recording is being made. You do not need to wait until the recording finishes. You can also play a DVD VIDEO, VIDEO CD, Super VCD, CD, or DATA CD while recording on the HDD. 1 2 Press TOOLS while recording. The TOOLS menu appears. Example: Play another title on the HDD while recording to the HDD. Select "Chasing Playback, " and press ENTER. Playback starts from the beginning of the programme you are recording. When you fast forward to the point that you are recording, Chasing Playback returns to normal playback. 1 2 3 While recording, press TITLE LIST to display the HDD Title List. Playback starts from the selected title. Notes · For DVD-RWs (VR mode), this function does not work when recording: ­ on a 1x-speed DVD-RW. ­ in the HQ or HSP recording mode. Example: Play a DVD while recording to the HDD. 1 2 While recording, press DVD and insert the DVD into the recorder. Press TITLE LIST to display the DVD Title List. 60 3 4 Select the title you want to play, and press ENTER. Playback starts from the selected title. Searching for a Title/ Chapter/Track, etc. HDD DVD +RW VCD -RWVR -RWVideo +R -R Notes · The DVD's playback picture on your TV screen freezes for a few seconds when you fast forward/fast reverse or instant replay/advance during Simultaneous Rec and Play. · You cannot play a DVD recorded in NTSC colour system while recording on the HDD. CD DATA CD You can search a disc by title, chapter, scene or track. · If you add numbers (01, 02, 03, etc. ) to the front of the track names when you store the tracks in a disc, the tracks will be played in that order. · Since a disc with many trees takes longer to start playback, it is recommended that you create albums with no more than two trees. 63 Edit options for DVD-RWs (VR mode) Editing -RWVR Before Editing This recorder offers various edit options for various disc types. Before you edit, check the disc type in the front panel display, and select the option available for your disc (page 8). You can enjoy advanced edit functions. First you have two options for a DVD-RW (VR mode): editing either the original recording (called the "original"), or the playback information created from the original (called a "Playlist"). Since each is different in nature and offers different merits, read the following and select the one that better suits your needs. Note You may lose the edited contents if you remove the disc or a timer recording starts while editing. To edit original titles Edits made to the original titles are final. If you plan to retain an unaltered original recording, create and edit a Playlist (see below). The edit functions available for original titles are: ­ Labelling a title (page 65). ­ Erasing a section of a title (A-B Erase) (page 66). Edit options for the HDD and DVD+RWs/DVD-RWs (Video mode)/ DVD+Rs/DVD-Rs HDD +RW -RWVideo +R -R You can perform simple edits. Since Video mode titles are actual recordings on the disc, you cannot undo any edits you make. The edit functions available for Video mode titles are: ­ Setting protection against erasure (page 65). ­ Erasing a section of a title (A-B Erase) (HDD and DVD+RWs only) (page 66). [. . . ] DVD+RWs use a recording format that is comparable to the DVD VIDEO format. Copy protection signals (page 42) Copy restriction set by copyright owners, etc. These signals are included in some software or TV programmes and restrict recording on this recorder. DVD-R (page 8) A DVD-R is a recordable disc that is the same size as a DVD VIDEO. Contents can be recorded only once to a DVD-R, and will have the same format as a DVD VIDEO. Dolby Digital (page 92) Digital audio compression technology developed by Dolby Laboratories. The rear channel is stereo and there is a discrete subwoofer channel in this format. [. . . ]
