[. . . ] Using the Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection feature, your fax machine can "learn" the ring pattern you designate to be answered by the FAX machine. Unless you change it, this ringing pattern will continue to be recognized and answered as a FAX call, and all other ringing patterns will be forwarded to the extension telephone or answering machine plugged into the EXT. You can easily suspend or change Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection at any time. Before using the Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection option, Distinctive Ring service must be installed on your telephone line by the telephone company. To set up Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection, you will need another telephone line at your location, or someone available to dial your FAX number from outside. 2. 8 BASIC FUNCTIONS To set up the DRPD mode: 1 Press Menu until "Fax Setup" appears on the top line of the display. Then have a call placed to a different number assigned to that same line to be sure the call is forwarded to the extension telephone or answering machine plugged into the EXT. jack. : Receiving Faxes in the Memory Your machine can receive faxes while you are making copies or printing a received fax. If you receive a fax while you are copying, your machine stores incoming faxes in the memory. Then, as soon as you finish copying, the machine automatically prints the fax. BASIC FUNCTIONS 2. 9 Making a Copy Loading Paper for Copying The instructions for loading print materials into the paper tray are the same whether you are faxing or copying. For copying, you can also use the manual feeder to load special print material, such as transparencies or labels, if they are Letter-, A4-, Legalsized. To load paper in the manual feeder: 1 Load a sheet of the print material with the print side face up and into the center of the tray. For transparencies, hold them by the edges and avoid touching the print side. Oils from your finders can cause print quality problems. 2 Adjust the guide to the width of the print material. NOTE: When printing on previously printed paper from the manual feeder, the printed side should be facing down with an uncurled edge to the machine. If you experience problems with paper feed, turn the paper around. 2. 10 BASIC FUNCTIONS 3 Open the rear cover to use the rear output slot. 2 CAUTION: · The fusing area inside the rear part of your machine becomes hot once the machine is turned on. Be careful when you access this area. 4 After copying, close the rear cover. Setting the Paper Type and Size for the Manual Feeder After loading paper in the manual feeder, you need to set the correct paper type and size using the control panel buttons. To set the paper size for the manual feeder: 1 Press Menu. The following problems may cause print quality deviations, jamming or even damage to the machine: Symptom Poor print quality or toner adhesion, problems with feeding Dropout, jamming, curl Increased gray background shading/machine wear Excessive curl problems with feeding Jamming, damage to machine Problems with feeding Problem with Paper Too moist, too rough, too smooth or embossed; faulty paper lot Stored improperly Too heavy Too moist, wrong grain direction or short-grain construction Cutouts or perforations Ragged edges Solution Try another kind of paper, between 100 ~ 400 Sheffied, 4 ~ 5 % moisture content. Use good quality paper. NOTES: · Do not use letterhead paper printed with low-temperature inks, such as those used in some types of thermography. [. . . ]
