[. . . ] A speaker protection circuit prevents noise on power up and power down of the computer. The output delivers the same signal as the Line outputs, and its volume is adjusted in the same way via TotalMix. Additionally, the Settings dialog provides level adjustment 0 dB, -6 dB, -12 dB and Mute, independent of the Line output. Thus the level balance between headphones and monitors is easily optimized. When used as high-quality but unbalanced Line output, these options realize a level adjustment similar to the +4/-10 choices of the Line I/Os. In case the headphone output should operate as Line output, an adapter TRS plug to RCA phono plugs, or TRS plug to TS plugs is required. The left channel is connected to the tip, the right channel to the ring of the TRS jack/plug. User's Guide HDSP System HDSP 9632 © RME 47 25. Digital Connections 25. 1 ADAT The ADAT optical I/O of the HDSP 9632 is fully compatible to all ADAT equipped units. RME's unsurpassed Bitclock PLL prevents clicks and drop outs even in extreme varipitch operation, and guarantees a fast and low jitter lock to the digital input signal. More information on Double Speed (S/MUX) can be found in chapter 33. 3. ADAT In Interface for a device sending an ADAT signal to the HDSP 9632. When receiving a Double Speed signal, this input carries the channels 1 to 4. ADAT Out Interface for a device receiving an ADAT signal from the HDSP 9632. When sending a Double Speed signal, this port carries channels 1 to 4. Can also be used as SPDIF optical output. 25. 2 SPDIF Input The SPDIF input is configured in the Settings dialog, available by a click on the hammer symbol in the Task Bar's system tray. The HDSP system accepts all commonly used digital sources as well as SPDIF and AES/EBU. In case the optional digital XLR breakout cable is not used, receiving signals in AES/EBU format requires a cable adapter. Pins 2 and 3 of a female XLR plug are connected individually to the two pins of a phono plug. The cable shielding is only connected to pin 1 of the XLR - not to the phono plug. The ground-free design, with transformers for coaxial digital inputs and outputs, offers a troublefree connection of all devices along with perfect hum rejection and full AES/EBU compatibility. Output In SPDIF mode, identical signals are available at both the optical and the coaxial output. Apart from the audio data itself, digital signals in SPDIF or AES/EBU format have a header containing channel status information. [. . . ] Nowadays many devices with SPDIF input can handle Professional subcode. Devices with AES3 input almost always accept Consumer SPDIF (passive cable adapter necessary). User's Guide HDSP System HDSP 9632 © RME 83 33. 6 Noise level in DS / QS Mode The outstanding signal to noise ratio of the HDSP 9632's AD-converters can be verified even without expensive test equipment, by using record level meters of various software. But when activating the DS and QS mode, the displayed noise level will rise from -109 dB to -104 dB at 96 kHz, and 82 dB at 192 kHz. The software measures the noise of the whole frequency range, at 96 kHz from 0 Hz to 48 kHz (RMS unweighted), at 192 kHz from 0 Hz to 96 kHz. [. . . ]
