[. . . ] Please read this manual carefully prior to using the RipDrive. 1. DO NOT alter the RipDrive in any way. Such tampering may result in a fire, injury, electric shock, or serious damage to the RipDrive or to the user. 2. Keep the RipDrive away from water. Water may cause fire, electric shock, and mechanical or electrical breakdown. 3. DO NOT leave the RipDrive in a car or other locations in which there are the possibilities of high temperatures or high humidity. Being exposed to high temperatures or humidity may be harmful to the RipDrive components and could cause a fire. 4. Avoid dropping the RipDrive from high places. [. . . ] Also, even if a task appears to be complete, there might be certain operations still going on internally. Remove the USB cable only after you have confirmed the completion of such tasks. Both uploading and downloading to/from this product consume a vast amount of power. We recommend connecting the charger to the RipDrive during uploading or downloading. 20 4. Basic Operations The RipDrive has many features that enable you to listen to various music files in a WMA/MP3 format. In addition, you can also listen to FM broadcasts using its built in tuner. The large LCD screen lets you easily monitor and adjust functions according to your needs. The basic operations of the RipDrive are detailed in this section. The topics in this section: Turning Power on Turning Power off Initial Screen LCD Screen Indicators Major Modes 21 Turning Power on Press the Play/Pause button. The RipDrive now enters Browser mode and the root folder appears on the LCD. Note: When using the RipDrive for the first time, there are no subfolders under the root folder. Connect the RipDrive to your PC and create new folders using your PC. Turning Power off Hold the Stop button for 2-3 seconds. The following message will appear on the LCD screen and the power turns off. 22 Initial Screen The following initial screen appears when the RipDrive is powered on: After the initial screen disappears, the RipDrive will be in Browser mode. Each time the button is pressed, the next song is played. Rewind During playback, press and hold the Rewind button to rewind through the current song. During playback or when in pause, lightly press the Rewind button to play the previous song. Each time the button is pressed, the previous song is played. 29 Note: If you lightly press the Rewind button during the first 5 seconds of playback, the previous song is played. After 5 seconds of playback, the beginning of the current song is played. To get back to the previous song after 5 seconds, lightly press the Rewind button twice. Viewing the Music Popup Menu during Playback Press and hold the Jog key during the playback of a file to display the MUSIC pop-up menu. During the playback of a file, press and hold the Jog key to display the MUSIC popup menu window in the center of the screen. This will not affect the music playing at the time. MUSIC POPUP User EQ EQ Play Mode Repeat Time Display Book Mark Exit 1. 2. Use the Forward button, Rewind button or Jog key to navigate through the menus and press the Play/Pause button or Jog key to select a menu. To make the pop-up menu window disappear, lightly press the MENU button or select Exit from the pop-up menu screen and press the Jog key. 4. Note: Refer to Section 5 for more information on how to set the different modes of the MUSIC pop-up menu. 30 Adjusting the Volume Use the Volume buttons to adjust the volume level. Pressing the Volume Down (-) button will decrease the volume level and pressing the Volume Up (+) button will increase the volume level. Pressing and holding either button will increase or decrease the volume level faster. Different icons will appear depending on the volume level. , , , , , , , , 31 2. Tuner Mode This mode allows you to listen to radio stations in your local area. [. . . ] Incorrectly converted or corrupted MP3 files may produce a low-frequency noise or may not play normally. Problems with a PC connection or file transfer. · · · · · Check whether the power to the unit is turned on. If the PC does not respond for several seconds, wait until the file is finished copying before removing the USB cable. In the case of audio files, copying is limited due to copyright protection.
