Guides and Demos Quick Start Guides and demos for Wireless Data Services can be accessed on nextel. com. 80 GPS Enabled Your phone's GPS Enabled feature uses information from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites orbiting the Earth to determine the approximate geographical location of your phone, expressed as latitude and longitude. The availability and accuracy of this location information (and the amount of time that it takes to calculate it) will vary depending on the environment in which you are using the GPS feature. For example, GPS location fixes are often difficult to obtain indoors, in covered locations, between high buildings, or in other situations where you have not established a clear broad view of the sky. When you make a 911 emergency call, the GPS feature of your phone can help emergency personnel locate you if your phone has adequate access to GPS satellite signals and your emergency response center is equipped to process such information. Location information appears on the phone's display. If your phone is connected to a laptop computer or similar device, software running on that device can request your location. To protect your privacy, you can control whether these requests are granted. IMPORTANT: Things to Keep in Mind If you are using the GPS feature of your phone while driving, please give full attention to driving and to the road. Where adequate signals from multiple satellites are not available (usually because your GPS antenna cannot establish a view of a wide area of open sky), the GPS feature of your phone WILL NOT WORK. Such situations include but are not limited to: · In underground locations · Inside of buildings, trains, or other covered vehicles · Under any other metal or concrete roof or structure · Between tall buildings or under dense tree-cover · Near a powerful radio or television tower 81 Making an Emergency Call · When your GPS antenna is covered (for example, by your hand or other object) or facing the ground · In temperature extremes outside the operating limits of your phone Walking or driving very slowly may also substantially reduce GPS performance. Even where location information can be calculated in such situations, it may take much longer to do so, and your location estimate may not be as accurate. Therefore, in any 911 call, always report the location to the emergency response center if you can and if you cannot, remain on your phone for as long as the emergency response center instructs you. Even where adequate signals from multiple satellites are available, your GPS feature will only provide an approximate location, often within 150 feet (45 meters) but sometimes much further from your actual location. Advice on how to improve GPS performance is provided in "Enhancing GPS Performance" on page 84. While the GPS feature of your phone can be a valuable navigational aid, it does not replace the need for careful navigating and good judgment. Remember that the accuracy of the location information and the time needed to obtain it will vary depending on circumstances, particularly the ability to receive signals from adequate numbers of satellites. On emergency calls, your phone uses assistance information from the phone network to improve the speed and accuracy of your phone's location calculation: if such assistance information becomes unavailable, it may reduce the speed and accuracy of the location calculation. The satellites used by the GPS feature of your phone are controlled by the U. S. government and are subject to changes implemented in accordance with the Department of Defense GPS user policy and the Federal Radionavigation Plan. These changes may affect the performance of the GPS feature of your phone. Making an Emergency Call Dial 911 to be connected to an emergency response center. When you make an emergency 911 call, the GPS feature of your phone begins to seek information to calculate your approximate location. [. . . ] 2. The damage or defect is caused by charging or using the battery in equipment or service other than the Product for which it is specified. A Product which, due to illegal or unauthorized alteration of the software/firmware in the Product, does not function in accordance with MOTOROLA'S published specifications or the local type acceptance labeling in effect for the Product at the time the Product was initially distributed from MOTOROLA.
