While some countries' laws permit limited copying of copyrighted material in certain circumstances, those circumstances may not be as broad as some people assume. Epson encourages each user to be responsible and respectful of the copyright laws when using ink jet printers, digital cameras, and scanners. Trademarks Epson and Epson Stylus are registered trademarks, and Epson UltraChrome, Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss, and PRINT Image Matching are trademarks of Seiko Epson Corporation. BorderFree and RPM are registered trademarks, PhotoEnhance and UltraSmooth are trademarks, and Epson PhotoCenter, Epson Store, SoundAdvice, and Epson Connection are service marks of Epson America, Inc. [. . . ] Make sure EPSON Stylus Photo R1800 is selected, then click Print. Macintosh Windows The printer prints your CD or DVD and ejects it on the tray. Note: After you print, handle the CD or DVD carefully. To allow the ink to dry fully, wait at least 24 hours before playing the disc or inserting it in a drive. Keep printed discs away from moisture and direct sunlight. If you need to adjust the print position or color, see the instructions for "Adjusting the Print Position" on page 70 and "Adjusting the Print Density" on page 71. Printing on CDs and DVDs 69 Adjusting the Print Position If your printed images and text are not positioned the way you want, you may need to adjust the printing position. Use the blank cardboard position check disk included with your printer or an extra CD. You can also use these steps to check the position before you print on a CD or DVD. Place the position check disk (or an extra ink jet printable CD) on the CD tray and insert it into the printer, as described on page 66. Make sure EPSON Stylus Photo R1800 is selected, then click Print Position Confirmation Pattern (Windows) or Print Position Check Pattern (Macintosh). Macintosh Windows 5. The confirmation pattern is printed on the position check disk or CD and the printer ejects the tray. 70 Printing on CDs and DVDs 6. Remove the position check disk or CD and measure the distance from the edge of the hole to the small cross marks (distances labeled A and B as shown). You'll need a metric ruler with millimeters for these measurements. You see a screen like this: Windows Macintosh Enter measurements here Enter measurements here 8. Follow the instructions on page 75 to clean the print head, if necessary. If you still have print quality problems, check the solutions beginning on page 93. You can also turn the printer off and wait overnight--this allows any dried ink to soften--and then try cleaning the print head again. 74 Maintaining Your Printer Running the Head Cleaning Utility 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red H ink light is off. (If the H ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge; see page 76. ) 2. Do one of the following: Windows: Right-click the icon on your taskbar (in the lower right corner of your screen). Mac OS X: Open the Applications folder and select EPSON Printer Utility. Cleaning takes about two minutes, during which the printer makes noise and the green P power light flashes. Caution: Never turn off the printer while the green P power light is flashing, unless the printer hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes. 4. When the green P power light stops flashing, make sure paper is loaded in the printer. Click Print nozzle check pattern, then click Print (Windows) or click Confirmation, then click Next (Macintosh). If the nozzle check pattern has no gaps or lines (as shown below), click Finish. Maintaining Your Printer 75 If the pattern has white lines or gaps (as shown below), click Clean to clean the print head again. If you don't see any improvement after cleaning the print head three or four times, check the solutions beginning on page 93. [. . . ] Exchange products and parts assume the remaining warranty period of your original product covered by this limited warranty. What This Warranty Does Not Cover: This warranty does not apply to refurbished or reconditioned products. Using this product for continuous production or similar high duty purposes is not considered normal use; damage, maintenance or service from such use will not be covered under this warranty.
