Quick stops, excessive force and uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart combination to overturn. The lightning flash with arrow head symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated "dangerous voltage" within the product's enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the product. [. . . ] With the audio source connected, (for example, the output of a public address amplifier with a person speaking at a normal level into the microphone), adjust the INPUT LEVEL control to a setting at the point where the MODULATION indicator lights on audio peaks. "C+L" - For audio sources that contain relatively low audio levels combined with relatively high audio levels as might be encountered when the audio output from a public address amplifier contains audio from multiple microphones with different persons speaking. This setting provides automatic increasing of the low level audio passages combined with limiting on voice peaks. This type of audio processing can sometimes aid intelligibility for a person receiving the signal while located in a relatively noisy audio environment. With the audio source connected, and the weaker audio levels active, adjust the INPUT LEVEL control to a setting at or just below the point where the MODULATION indicator lights on audio peaks. POWER INDICATOR - With the AC Adapter connected to the ALT 72 rear panel DC Input and the AC Adapter plugged into an AC power source, this LED lights when the rear panel POWER switch is set to the "ON" position. Rear Panel Controls and Connections 3 1 2 3 4 5 1. POWER ON/OFF - Set this switch to the "ON" position to operate the ALT 72. The unbalanced phono style input and the XLR balanced input are each always active, so audio will be fed from whichever input is being used. GROUND LIFT - When switched "ON" this switch lifts or isolates the shield connection (pin 1) of the XLR connector. In some installations where excessive ground currents are present on the balanced line shield, turning the ground lift "ON" may help. For other conditions it should be set to the "OFF" position. This switch does not affect the unbalanced input. 4 Installation If the optional magnetic-mount antenna is more appropriate, contact your dealer or the R. L. The magnetic-mount antenna installation and placement is detailed on page 5 of this manual. Make audio connections The ALT 72 will accept line level audio inputs. Speaker Transformer tap Use XLR connectors to connect balanced audio signals to the ALT 72 AUDIO INPUT. Use RCA phono connectors to connect unbalanced audio signals to the ALT 72 AUDIO INPUT. The following diagrams illustrate balanced and unbalanced audio wiring details: SETUP and OPERATION Locating the ALT 72 Prior to connection and adjustments, decide on a location for the ALT 72 that will provide a reliable signal to the receivers throughout the intended listening area. Generally, for the best transmitted signal coverage, locate the ALT 72 in an area that is free of metal obstructions and closest to the intended listening area. If the supplied "rubber duck" antenna is to be used, do not locate the ALT 72 in a metal cabinet. Install the antenna The "rubber duck" antenna fits into the hole on top of the transmitter and threads onto a mounting stud inside. Do not use excessive force to tighten the antenna; it only needs to be finger-tight. Connect the Transmitter to Power Plug the DC power cord of the supplied AC Adapter into the DC INPUT connector on the rear panel of the ALT 72 unit.
