When this camcorder stops recording you may notice a brief interruption of the audio on the connected device. Make sure to check the setting after using the DV control function, as the tape in the connected device may be overwritten. When connecting two DV Control-compatible Canon camcorders with a DV cable, make sure to set [DV CONTROL] on the other connected camcorder to [OFF]. Up to 2 other devices can be connected to the XH G1/XH A1 for DV control. With some non-Canon devices: The DV control may not work properly depending on the connected device. 74 Other Camcorder Functions/Settings SD Changing the Recording Mode (SP/LP) When recording in Standard Definition (SD mode) only, you can choose between SP (standard play) and LP (long play). LP extends the tape usage by 1. 5 times. E MENU ( 25) RECORDING SETUP DV REC MODE·····SP To change to LP mode, open the menu and select [RECORDING SETUP]. Select [DV REC MODE], set it to [LP] and close the menu. Depending on the tape and its usage condition, the picture and sound recorded in LP mode may be distorted. If you record in both SP and LP modes on the same tape, the playback picture may become distorted, and the time code may not be written correctly. If you play back a tape that has been recorded in LP mode with another digital device on this camcorder, or vice versa, the picture and sound may become distorted. Changing the Display Language The language used in the camcorder displays and menu items can be changed to German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Russian, simplified Chinese or Japanese. MENU ( 25) Recording DISPLAY SETUP/ LANGUAGE ···ENGLISH To change the display language, open the menu and select [DISPLAY SETUP/ [LANGUAGE ], select a language and close the menu. ]. Select a date format and close the menu. 75 Customization Using the Custom Preset You can define preset levels for 23 recording specifications used when recording on tape (17 when recording still images on the memory card). Up to 9 custom preset files can be saved on the camcorder (custom preset files 7 - 9 are predefined files) and up to 20 on a memory card. Custom preset files can be copied from the camcorder to the memory card and vice versa. Also, the custom preset settings currently in effect can be embedded within a still image of the scene recorded on the memory card. This camcorder's custom preset files are not compatible with the XL H1's custom preset files. Recording specifications that can be saved in a custom preset: Gamma curve*, knee, black stretch/press, master pedestal*, setup level*, sharpness, horizontal detail frequency, horizontal/vertical detail balance, coring, NR1*, NR2*, color matrix*, color gain, color phase, R gain, G gain, B gain, R-G matrix, R-B matrix, G-R matrix, G-B matrix, B-R matrix and B-G matrix. * Available only when recording on the tape. [GAM] Gamma Curve You can select from [NORMAL], [CINE1] or [CINE2]. [NORMAL] corresponds to Video Gamma adjustments, while [CINE1] is a setting appropriate for video telecined from film and [CINE2] is a setting appropriate for transfer to film. Output [NORMAL] [CINE1] [CINE2] Representation of the setting Input [KNE] Knee Point Adjustment Adjust the dynamic range (knee point) in the highlight area of the image to prevent overexposure. You can select from [AUTO], [HIGH], [MIDDLE] or [LOW]. Output [HIGH] [MIDDLE] [LOW] [BLK] Black Stretch/Black Press [STRETCH] Adjust the dynamic range in the black area of the image.
